Lahdan's Whistle
After the
whistle blown by Lahdan Al Mohanadi on the failure of the matriarchal
leadership of higher education in Qatar, several people were stimulated by this
May spirit and started writing and twitting on the same subject that was
thought to be tabooed. Would these early manifestations of public opinion on higher education management lead to any thing ? Any cracking of the
19th century mentality of higher education leadership , the mania of foreign
packaged standardized tests and the crippling filtration policy implanted as
an arbitrarily approved universities lists . All have left a tiny population of
high school graduates outside the government sponsorship scheme for higher
education. Cohorts of young Qataris are going through an early life crisis
caused by all sorts of barriers to entry manifesting the closed doors policy .
Those who designed the educationally rigid , quantitative , single -minded and
the one size fit all criteria are blind to see the new trends in education that
emphasize the diversity of students , the more advanced concepts of the
multiplicity nature of the human intelligence and the technology driven
education of the 21 century that transferred learning into a new ecology where
the student and not the teacher , is the one who has the upper hand . Education
technocrats are responsible for the unaccountable trial and error style of
higher education polices . The same technocrats did not go through such ,
squeeze and supercritical extraction dilemma , even when these orthodox criteria
were fashionable once upon a time . Nevertheless they had opened doors to climb
the professional ladder and to be on the top of a very important sector in the
economy , our precious human capital .
